what little actors

The other day my kids we "acting" out a scene from a movie and it made me think of when I was younger and we use to quote movies all the time. A classic from my childhood was "The Three Amigos." The rule of thumb at our house was anything that made Jake laugh, you did. That included quoting movies in funny voices and stubbing your toe (on purpose). On long trips, we use to play the movie game. This is when on person says a line from a movie and the others have to guess it. Jared use to just scream and want everyone to guess which movie it came from (he was fairly young). I notice now Darin and I quote movies to each other and have for years and I guess it is wearing off on the kids. Please enjoy my kids version of "Bedtime Stories" (it is a cute movie by the way)

Waffles anyone?

Waffles!!! We eat waffles at least once a week. The recipe is from my mom and we make it for company or when we go to grandma and grandpa Scholz's house. It has become a staple in our lives. If any of you want the recipe just let me know. (Notice the bigger the better waffle iron that my dear husband bought me for Christmas!) Sometimes my kids friends make comments about how we can't have breakfast for dinner but we don't mind mixing things up a little especially since we have 8:00 am church so we eat breakfast when we get home!

Strawberry Jam Fever

Last week I noticed strawberries we on sale 4pds for $1.50 and we all know that means time to make jam. I had neighbors and friends come over on thurs, fri and monday so I could share what jam making knowledge I have. I had one gal ask where I learned and I simple said my mom. I remember every year she made jam. My hometown has the most mouth watering strawberries!! The funny thing is I never learned how while I lived at home, it wasn't until I got married that I decided it was time to learn. Same with sewing. My mom sewed for us all the time but I didn't really learn until after I moved out, crazy how that works huh! Anyway I was able to get my years supply of jam done and I also froze some to make fruit leather in June. That is another thing I remember and eventually learned how to do is make fruit leather outside. We used to eat it right off the table when it was still warm!! Now that I live in Arizona it is the perfect weather to make it!! I will post pictures is June.

The new cage

About a month ago we were forced to buy a new cage for Ally and Sally since one of them broke the old cage and would get out at night. The story behind it is quite enjoyable though. One morning the kids came in my room yelling that Sally is out of the cage and under Conns bed. We put her back in her cage and I inspected it throughly to see how she got out because the cage door was shut. I couldn't see anything and concluded that maybe Conn got her out at night and fell asleep with her or something crazy like that and end of story. Well the next night I hear an "oh Crap" in the middle of the night and it was Darin. He heard a noise and got up and seeing what he thougt was my shoe in his way kick it aside and then screamed when the object came running back to his foot. It was Sally. We both went to investigate the cage and with a flashlight found where she had broke one bar and got out. We "fixed it" or we thought. Darin was continually woke up by "rat noises" How he can hear a 1/2 pound rat walking on the carpet but sleep through kids getting up and varies other kids events at night is beyond me. Needless to say thanks to craigs list we found a new cage and it is working for now.
The bottom picture is of the old cage and when Nickola decided they needed a bath so she poured a whole bottle of gatorade on them and tried to brush their hair...that is why they are in the boys room now.

In Texas, Nick kept on catching ladybugs. We were at Sonic and Darin was trying to get her to cross the parking lot to our car but she was holding up traffic because she was too worried about he new friend, the ladybug. Darin scooped her up and took her to the car. This caused an outburst of tears because the lady bug flew away. We tried to convince her that he went to his family but she knew he didn't have any family and he was lost and he was her friend. Daddy was in her words "not my prince anymore." We just let her cry it out and eventually she forgave her daddy and she loved him again. This girl is the animal whisperer.

Men are from Mars Women are from Venus

When we were first married Darin use to tell me that he knew when I was mad because I would get my book(men are from mars..) and take a bath. Lately I find the differences between men and women fascinating. K and I always discuss this and I find I should blog it not to nit pick but to make an observation. I love my husband and we have a great marriage..it is a little weird to people I am sure but it works great for us. I am grateful for Darin and the friendship we have.
I have been thinking about the bigger is better thing (get your mind out of the gutter). One year, I broke my little scrapbooking paper trimmer and told Darin he could get me a new one for what ever holiday was coming up. I got a trimmer but a huge 18 inch rotary trimmer that when I took to it to scrapbooking it took up the whole table but D thought it was a better buy. Then one year I got a new glue gun (I already had a mini one that I love) but this one is a high temp with 5 different attachments and a carrying case. Now I want a small screwdriver for my key chain. My dad had on growing up and I find myself in need of one at the most awkward times. Darin suggest he buy me a Swiss army knife with tweezers and toothpick etc... I only want a screwdriver I reply but of course bigger is better. We will see which one wins...

What kids say

I know you can go on the side for these but this one deserves its own post. Sunday morning I make waffles and bacon before conference. During breakfast, Darin pays me a great compliment, something like "Thanks honey for a great breakfast." He then leans over to Zackery to remind him to thank mom and then whispers to Conner the same thing. Conner looks up and says "Is it mothers day?" Well at least they know once a year to thank mom!!
